Do You Need A Social Media Spring Cleaning? Here Is A Step By Step Guide.

Allow me to start by asking you a question…

Is social media a happy place for you?

Wait! Before you answer, I want you to really, really, really, really, REALLY assess & take the time to think about it.

I do love social media as it has been a huge part of my life now. But, you know, sometimes it can go a little sour and opening my account & scrolling through the feed can just get me feeling more negative emotions than positive ones.

Are you this person, too? Are you the person who logs into your account, scrolls through your feed then, sees a bunch of posts that are inspiring & enlightening, in the end, feeling motivated to go & take actions? Or are you the person who logs into your account, scrolls through your feed, and sees all these bad news & hatred & racism, in the end, feeling frustrated?  Even more, are you the person who logs into your account, scrolls through your feed and sees a photo of your ex enjoying life, doing amazing things while there you are standing at your house, shovelling snow off your car, feeling so discouraged & unmotivated?

Either way, we live in the times when social media can either be of good benefit or of bad cause and it may be just the perfect time to clean up your social media.

Social Media Clean Up

While you can’t really control what other people post on their socials, you can always control what shows up in your feed. This is highly advisable to do especially if you are already experiencing repeated negative emotions. It’s time for a social media clean up!

How To Start

A social media clean up? How do I even start?

Well, I’m here to answer that question! I only have 5 tips and I hope these 5 tips help you.

#1 Set your feed goals.

First things first, set your goals! Before you carry on with this social media clean up plan, set a goal of what you want & what you don’t want to see. In that way, it’ll be easier to navigate what you should be doing & aiming for next.

#2 Unfollow accounts.

Unfollow, block or restrict the accounts that are not good for you. More often than not, we follow more accounts that we actually should, accounts that post nothing but hate, accounts that have no meaningful content, accounts that we don’t even know or normally interact with. Luckily, Instagram has a new feature of letting one know the accounts least interacted with. You can unfollow all these accounts so you can have a fresh, clean & brand new start with your feed.

#3 Utilize the mute feature.

Yes, you can actually mute people’s stories without having to hide their regular posts. This is the best way to go about for accounts that post too much stories in one day but actually have great feed posts. You can just choose to mute their stories without having to unfriend, unfollow or block them.

And, if you don’t want so much people to see your daily stories, you can actually filter who sees them on your Instagram. Just click the ‘Close Friends’ list and put in certain people who can view your stories daily.

#4 Reset your history settings.

This, for me, is the best & probably, most effective way of cleaning up your explore page. This will COMPLETELY get rid of unwanted visual contents thus negative, disturbing posts. By resetting your settings, you can start all over again with customizing your explore page.

#5 Update your feed & bio.

Last but definitely not the least, go ahead & tweak your feed & bio a little bit. If you haven’t updated your profile info & picture yet, now is probably the best time to freshen things up.

Instagram has a feature of archiving your posts & photos without permanently deleting them. Go and take a look at your feed and archive old photos so you can start with a brand new look on your personal page.

Conclusion

These are just some of the things that you can do to clean up your social media page & feed. I hope this helped!
